Writing TAKS Test!

Dear Parents:
TAKS testing time has come. On March 3rd our 4th and 7th grade students will take their tests. We are confident that our students are ready. Students and teachers alike have been working rigorously since the beginning of the school year to master the skills needed to be successful on the TAKS tests.

March 2010 tests will be administered on the following dates.

Grade: 4 & 7
Subject: Writing
Test Dates: March 3, 2010

There are several things you can do to help ensure a successful testing experience. To name a few, make sure your child arrives on time, fully rested and prepared to test. It is also important to make sure your child eats a good dinner the night before testing and a good breakfast the morning of testing. Similarly, encouraging your child to do his or her personal best can greatly improve self-confidence levels leading to better performance. Thank you for all you do to help your child to be as successful as possible, and for all of your efforts.

HSA-Reading Time

Dear Parents,
We would like to draw your attention to a reading program we have been implementing at Harmony Science Academy - Dallas called Drop Everything And Read. Everyday between 10:30 am and 11:05 AM students, teachers and everyone should drop everything and start reading.
We believe this program, which represents our commitment to litreacy, will help strengthen the reading and comprehensive skills of our students. Students are encouraged to read through several incentives such as certificates and awards for AR quizz points, classroom picnics and field trips.
Parent support is highly appreciated and crucial in this issue. Please remind your kids to take an AR test in the school after they finished their book.
For more question about our AR program contact one of our ELA teachers or an administrator.

Great News from USNews.com

Dear H.S.A Family,

Harmony Science Academy-Houston's ranking has been changed to Silver category from Bronze category in USNews.com.

What does it mean:

USNews The America's Best High Schools project is an annual report that identifies the country's top-performing high schools. The goal is to provide a clear, unbiased picture of how well public schools serve all of their students - from the highest achieving to the lowest achieving - in preparing them to demonstrate proficiency in basic skills as well as readiness for college-level work. The first-ever list of America's Best High Schools is the 2008 edition, which was posted online November 30, 2007. The 2009 edition was posted online on December 5, 2008 and the 2010 edition was posted on December 10, 2009.

Since U.S. News & World Report editors believe high schools are among America's most important institutions, adding America's Best High Schools to its "America's Best" series was a natural progression. Education drives our country's future. Recognizing schools that are performing well and providing them as models to other schools will inspire educators and communities to do better. Also, by sharing this information, parents across the country will be armed with information to help them make better-informed decisions about their child's education.
